Eastern Courier, Auckland | Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) has delivered its first Asian Health Plan.
It identifies health issues and opportunities to make the most meaningful difference for Asian people, says Margie Apa, director of strategic development.
"We're committed to delivering excellent health services to our community and our Asian population is growing rapidly. Having a plan that reflects their needs is essential."
It talks about the context of Asian health planning, the health profile of Asian people living in the area, and actions, and "focuses on increasing our own cultural capacity and capability as well as key areas where we need to improve health outcomes".
"These include diabetes, dental and oral health, cervical screening and accessing mental health services," Apa says.
CMDHB is looking for an Asian health gain advisor, a new role.
Loretta Hansen, the chief executive of East Health Trust Primary Health Organisation says "having culturally competent health professionals who can provide high quality culturally appropriate services" is very important for them.
