Elina Tameifuna - Fanau Ola Acting Service Manager
Fanau Ola Acting Service Manager Elina Tameifuna was one of the first of our frontline staff to get the COVID-19 vaccination. She shares her experience and some words of encouragement.
What was it like getting the covid vaccination?
It was quick. We were prioritised and encouraged as Maaori Health, Pacific Health and emergency care staff to receive our vaccination as soon as possible.
What was the process like?
The staff were lovely - they were friendly and open. They had some Pacific and Maaori staff there which was great.
We went into a room where staff took our temperature and asked for our details. Then we went into a room that had cubicles where we met a nurse who asked us a few questions before giving the vaccination. She also gave us some information and talked through some of the potential side effects that we may experience.
What advice would you give to people about getting the covid vaccine?
It's important to know that some people may get side effects so don't be alarmed if you feel a bit sick afterwards.
In saying this, a lot of my colleagues did not experience any side effects.
Don't let this deter you from getting the covid vaccine; it is safe - it's our best protection against COVID so do it for your family and others around you.
