Celebrating Allied Health Professions Day

Mehrish Khan – Phlebotomist

“It’s a pleasure to speak on behalf of my colleagues in support of the day that honours our profession.

October 14th recognises the many Allied Health professions and we'll be celebrating at our own event on the 17th.

I have been a phlebotomist at Middlemore for one year, and previously I worked for Labtests in the community.

I’m originally from Fiji.

My job is to draw blood from patients in various parts of the hospital – and sometimes it can be quite challenging, especially if the person concerned has veins which are hard to access.

Occasionally, a patient can also be agitated, so my job is to make them as comfortable as possible about the procedure.

I love my work, the great people I work with, and the patients I am privileged to serve.”
