Security team takes out NZ Police award

A huge congratulations to Kurtis Heketoa and the Security team who won the ‘Commitment to Problem Solving’ Award at the national Evidence-Based Policing Problem-Oriented Policing Awards.

They were nominated for the vehicle theft reduction project which helped to achieve a 30% reduction in car thefts at Middlemore Hospital.

The team, led by Kurtis, joined forces with the New Zealand Police to achieve the great result, with representatives from organisations like KiwiRail, Auckland Transport and ACC was also involved in working to address the problem.

“We know that vehicle crime is an issue here at Middlemore Hospital, it has been an issue for several years however, we are trying to tackle it in a different way by sharing intelligence and looking at cost-effective ways that are sustainable,” says Kurtis.

“We have done a significant amount of work in the security space to reduce the crime rate, however, there’s always more to do.”

In recognition of this work and the Award, Kurtis was also invited to sit on a national panel to discuss stakeholder engagement and the strategic and operational work he and his team has done to contribute to the reduction.

What an incredible achievement from our team especially given they were up against projects with budgets that stretched into the millions.

It is yet another example of the Counties ‘can do’ spirit.
