Seeing a fire truck outside a hospital would usually turn heads - but this one had the kids bursting with joy as it turned up for a special visit and delivery.
The Birkenhead Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived with a collection of donations of cosy jammies from Onewa Christian Community, Kauri Park School, Strings Attached, and Northcote College, filling their big red truck to the brim.
"Cold damp houses are a big factor in tamariki being admitted to hospital. Jammies in June is one of our campaigns designed to help provide warm pjs to keep them warm and toasty.
"We are immensely grateful to the Birkenhead Volunteer Fire Brigade and our wonderful community partners. This visit has not only provided many warm jammies for our children but also brightened the day of patients and whaanau at Kidz First. "says Margi Mellsop, CEO, Middlemore Foundation.
The Brigade Volunteers took the time to open up the compartments, explaining how everything works and the purpose of each tool.
The event was a huge hit, with our tamariki who were thrilled to meet the firefighters, learn about their work, and experience the fire truck up close. The flashing lights were a particular highlight!
