Hats off to kaimahi in three Middlemore Medicine wards who yesterday celebrated their huge success in a project to improve acute patient flow.
With the aim of increasing early discharges to free up acute beds for incoming patients from ED, Medicine wards competed in a month-long challenge to increase the number of patients who were discharged via the Discharge Lounge. With improvements across the board, the winners were Ward 1, Ward 2 (photo above) and Ward 17, who all achieved very impressive results.
Wards 17 (photo above) and 1 (photo below) were the most improved wards, with discharge lounge use increasing by as much as 292 percent, while Ward 2 was the overall winner with 62 patients transferring to the Discharge Lounge.
There was cake and celebration in each ward, great mahi teams!
