Celebrating our ED Nurses - Samantha Oleson

i, I'm Samantha Oleson, a registered nurse working in the Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital.

I trained here as a student nurse and fell in love with the place.

I'm mainly involved with looking after our youngest patients – babies and children, making sure they get seen in a timely fashion and flagging the needs of the sickest children with our doctors.

I get to perform a range of procedures including putting casts on broken limbs, administering IVs and sedatives and taking bloods.

ED is extremely busy, but it's a great place to learn – you have to be on your toes, and you are being challenged constantly.

My goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner and achieve my Masters of Nursing.

I'd say to anyone thinking of joining our team, you'll have to be a fairly driven and motivated person, and if you're passionate about learning and helping in the community, this could be the place for you!
